Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) launched “The Green Mobility Programme”.
The Tax Authority recently announced that electric vehicles and EV parts will be exempt from
Value-Added Tax (VAT), Customs Tax and Registration Fee in the Sultanate.
The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) has introduced a
new regulation governing charging of electric vehicles.
MTCIT has already installed 90 charging stations across the Sultanate in an effort to encourage adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and reduce carbon emissions.
The MTCIT announced that there are currently 100 EV charging stations nationwide, with plans to increase this number to 350 by the end of 2026.
MTCIT has issued a ministerial decision requiring all fuel stations to install EV charging points. This mandate is part of the government’s efforts to make EV charging more accessible to the public.
The Sultanate plans to phase out fuel-operated vehicles and ensure that 79% of vehicles in the country are electric by 2035.
Oman will have at least 22,000 new electric vehicles (EV) on roads by 2040 and phase out all fossil fuel powered vehicles by 2050.
Oman is considering a green transit corridor initiative for heavy vehicles.
In line with Oman Vision 2040’s energy objectives and the recent Royal Directives by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to grow the green hydrogen sector in the Sultanate of Oman, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) has issued specification standards for hydrogen-fueled vehicles.
